Her | Architecture & Interior Design
Completed
Inspired by the calmness and completeness felt on her travels to Japan, the owner of the studio was looking to create an intimate space for quiet reflection and an escape where she could develop her profession and receive guest and clients. Located next to her family home in Bali, Her is a Japanese influenced home escape on stilts with Balinese roots. The structure is elevated on a freestanding platform while the separate roof structure suspends over an intimate tea ceremony room, an office studio and wooden bathroom. The studio is accessed by a Japanese inspired door crafted completely in solid iron wood. Here the entrance frames a stoned walk to the floating studio nestled in the zen garden designed by Sebastian Mesdag. Craftsmanship is the key to successfully executing this simple but modern design. Crafted by Kalpa Taru using age honored carpentry techniques, the entire building was built with the wood provided by a ceased ancient tree found on Bengawang solo river-side in the island of Java. The structure, interiors and environment harmonize, making her a blend between modern needs, balinese philosophy & heritage craftsmanship.
